And he did it! Well, almost. Assistant Dean of Academic Affairs Alfred Guy walked away with a quarter of a million dollars on “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” this morning, after making it through 12 of 14 questions on the show yesterday and today.

Guy chose not to guess the answer to the 13th, $500,000 question (“According to Chanel, the fragrance Chanel No. 5 recreates a scent that perfumer Ernest Beaux whiffed while traveling where?”) and walk away with his accumulated winnings of $250,000. If he had answered incorrectly, he would have left with only a tenth of that amount.

The dean and English professor correctly answered questions about who wrote the line “Was this the face that launched a thousand ships” (answer: Christopher Marlowe) and which TV actor won both a comedy and drama Emmy for the same character (answer: Ed Asner).

Guy will screen the episodes on campus Wednesday, Feb. 16 in Linsly-Chittenden Hall at 4 p.m., he said.
