Regardless of whether Yale’s campus becomes smoke-free, smoking is prohibited inside buildings by state and university law, Calhoun Master Jonathan Holloway reminded students Sunday.

In an e-mail to all Hounies, Holloway outlined the consequences for anyone caught smoking tobacco or marijuana. Yale Security will monitor a particular suite in which smoking of both types was reported, and transgressors could face fines of $100 per person.

Connecticut state law bans smoking inside buildings, and Yale’s residential colleges are no exception.

“Furthermore, at the risk of burdening the obvious, smoking marijuana anywhere (inside or outside) is illegal. Period,” he wrote.
