A rash of deli-related violence struck the Elm City in the first half of the week.

Around 2 p.m. Monday, a local man was shot twice outside of a deli near the intersection of George and Day streets after buying a sandwich, New Haven Police Department spokesman Joe Avery wrote in a Tuesday press release. The man, Miguel Soto of 48 Howe Street, reportedly went home and ate his sandwich before asking his father to drive him to Yale-New Haven Hospital, Avery wrote.

According to the release, Soto was shot once in his groin and once in his left thigh. As of Tuesday he was receiving treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

In other deli-related news, the Qwik Stop Deli at 141 Farren Ave reported an armed robbery Tuesday afternoon, Avery wrote. According to the report, the suspect fled before police arrived, but was described as “an unknown male, 6′ tall, 200 lbs. LSW a thin black nylon mask, blue sweater, and blue jeans. The suspect was armed with a ‘9 mm’ black semi-automatic handgun.”

Hopefully Gourmet Heaven remains safe.
