Ferdinand Risco Jr. is the newest appointment to the New Haven Board of Education, Mayor John DeStefano Jr. announced Monday. A father of three, Risco works as a field manager in labor relations for the Metro-North Railroad. DeStefano’s spokeswoman, Jessica Mayorga, said in a statement that Risco is a “great example” of a parent who answered the city’s challenge to take part in school reform. “Parents are key to our success in our school change campaign,” DeStefano said in the statement. “As we challenge every parent to be hands-on leaders in their schools and within the district, I look forward to Ferdinand’s service to the board and New Haven Public School families.”
