Briefly: DeStefano to run unopposed

Darnell Goldson, former legislative aide to mayoral incumbent Mayor John DeStefano Jr., confirmed Tuesday to the New Haven Register that he is no longer running for mayor. This leaves DeStefano as the only candidate in the 2010 mayoral election. Another candidate, former state representative Bill Dyson, said in late March that he will not be seeking the position. Goldson first announced his candidacy in January 2008, nearly two years before election day. If re-elected, DeStefano will become the longest-serving mayor in New Haven’s history, with nine terms in office.

Too bad. This guy's city would blow away in the wind without Yale supporting yet. Yet he refuses to do such reasonable things as close off High Street between Chapel and Elm so public traffic could not cruise thru what should be a closed part of the campus. Most mayor's would bend over backwards to kiss the posterior of the ecnomoic driver of their city, but not this arrogant fellow.
Hopefully someone more reasonable will decide to run against DMan.

so destafano is a bad mayor because he refuses to kowtow to yale, such as by letting us annex an entire street? that kind of self-centeredness is why some townies don't like us.
