Today Elm City Cycling and The Devil’s Gear Bike Shop are holding “Bike to Work” outside City Hall, beginning at 7:30 a.m.

“It’s a great way to start the morning,” bike shop owner Matt Finer said.

He said the event, which has been held the past six years, typically draws a crowd of about 20 people. Residents are welcome to free breakfast provided by Koffee on Orange and to chit-chat about biking matters, he said. Finer said the cost of driving and concerns about personal and environmental health have recently piqued interest in bicycling.

The energy costs for bikes, as espoused by the event’s flyer, are always “$0 per gallon.”
