  1. Almost putting the game away

On a 2nd and 10, linebacker Jay Pilkerton had a chance to put the game away after a tipped pass landed in his hand. But the linebacker wasn’t able to hold on — just another chance given to this Bear offense.

  2. Weird sequence

So for some reason, Brown’s kick returners thought there was a need to start throwing around laterals with over 3:30 left on the clock. The Bears threw two — one forward — and both landed on the ground. The forward lateral penalty brought the spot of the ball back inside their own 20.

  3. Yale takes advantage of Bear confusion

Well, the Eli offense got the break it needed. Hart dropped back to pass and found a wide-open — I mean WIDE-OPEN — Balsam for a  78-yard touchdown. The Bears secondary must have had some type of confusion and Hart was quick to take advantage of it. After Mante’s PAT, the Yale lead is now 13-3 with 3:49 remaining in the contest.

  4. Big Break for the Elis

The Bulldog defense has done it again. And again. And again. This time on a 3rd and one, a Brown run play was snuffed in the backfield, forcing the Bears to attempt a 37-yard field goal. But this time, Robert Ranney couldn’t convert it. The Elis now take control at their 20-yard line and look at least to milk some time off the clock with just under 10 minutes remaining.

This game has been gift wrapped for Yale. The team needs to take advantage and put Brown away.

  5. End of the 3rd Quarter

After 45 minutes of play, Yale will take a 6-3 lead into the final period. The Bulldogs currently have the ball on their 11 yard-line as they look to put some more points on the board.

  6. Solid Mante punt

I’m going to keep beating this drum — in a low-scoring game like this field position is crucial and the Bears find themselves in a hole as they begin their drive with 1:40 remaining in the 3rd quarter. Tom Mante just booted another solid punt inside the Brown 10-yard line. This Bear offense now needs to go 90 yards to score its first touchdown of the game — no easy task against this vaunted Yale defense.

  7. Defense bends but doesn’t break

Sorry to go back to the same thing, but this Yale defense simply bends but doesn’t break. The Bears were able to drive into Yale territory but stalled and turned the ball over on downs. If only this team had an offense that could put some points on the board consistently — at times it seems like this great defense is simply being wasted.

  8. Offense unable to take advantage

Despite the field position and the 26-yard Balsam reception that brought the ball to the Brown 8-yard line, the Bulldogs had to settle yet again for a field goal. They may have taken 6-3 lead, but one has to wonder if the Yale defense can continue holding the Bear offense to nothing. The Eli offense needs to take some pressure off its defense and put some more points on the board.

  9. Balsam coming up big

After 3 receptions for 77 yards in the first half, sophomore Peter Balsam has come up big for the Bulldogs so far today. His 26-yard reception just now put the ball inside the Brown 20.

  10. Christodoulou makes up for earlier miscue

After Brown opened the second half with a 3 and out and were forced to punt, Christodoulou made up for his earlier muff with a 42-yard punt return. The Bulldogs will now begin their first series of the half on the Brown 39-yard line. This may be the spark the Elis needed to put some points on the board.

  11. Another Yale miscue

Yale’s playing with fire. The offense was driving down the field again, but this time the drive was halted by a poorly thrown interception by Hart. The Yale defense has been able to keep the Bear offense at bay thus far, but an explosive offense like Brown’s can explode at anytime. Yale can’t continue giving them extra opportunities, and not take advantage of their own.
