President-elect Peter Salovey announced fellow psychology professor Margaret “Peggy” Clark as the new master of Trumbull College to cheering applause in the Trumbull Dining Hall Sunday afternoon.

“I am thrilled and honored,” Clark said. “And I am particularly pleased it’s Trumbull College.”

Clark, like Salovey, is a professor of social psychology, specializing in platonic and romantic close-relationships. She joined the Yale faculty in 2005 and has been involved in numerous University committees, including the Executive Committee and the Faculty of Arts and Sciences Review Committee. Clark is also the current graduate vice president of Phi Beta Kappa.

Clark said she has had strong ties to Yale her whole life because she grew up in Connecticut. In addition, her daughter Elizabeth Clark ’09 attended Yale and was in Timothy Dwight College.

Students interviewed said they have fond memories of the warmth and support provided by outgoing Master Janet Henrich and her husband, physics professor Victor Henrich, over the years. Trumbull students compiled a scrapbook for Henrich with notes from graduates throughout the past decade, said Kat Eshel ’13.

“Master Henrich has been a driving force behind this college in terms of making sure everything works seamlessly behind the scenes,” Eshel said. “In terms of personality, she is the sweetest, kindest person ever.”

The Clarks will take up residence in Trumbull along with two pets, a golden retriever named Harold as well as a cat named Annabelle.
