Yale College Council subsidizes student formal ticket costs

Formal events hosted by the Yale College Council previously priced student tickets from $15 to $20. This year, however, the YCC advocated for and obtained a grant from the Yale College Dean’s Office, which allows prices to be reduced 66 percent.

Aeris, Panhellenic sororities host simultaneous recruitment, Panhellenic see increased popularity and bids

After Pi Beta Phi members voted unofficially to disaffiliate last semester, former members of the sorority unanimously revoked their status as active members, making Yale’s Panhellenic recruitment only include three sororities. Despite this, the Panhellenic sororities gave out more bids than in 2023 and the News was not able to obtain Aeris’ numbers.

After University President Peter Salovey promised the creation of a MENA space in December, administrators told the News that MENA students will have dedicated spaces, peer liaisons and an assistant director hired by the fall semester.

Right-wing Israeli politician Simcha Rothman visits Shabtai, ignites protest 

On Wednesday, Jan. 24, the Jewish society Shabtai hosted Simcha Rothman, a controversial Israeli politician who is a member of Israel’s far-right religious zionist party and chair of the constitution, law and justice committee within the Knesset, Israel’s legislature. The event — which was not publicly advertised — was protested by Israeli Yale community members and New Haven residents.

Yale under investigation for ‘response to complaints of alleged discrimination,’ details unclear 

The United States Department of Education opened a Title VI Shared Ancestry investigation into Yale and four other schools, per the most recent listing of cases by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. Yale officials did not clarify the details surrounding what they called the “one specific event” prompting the investigation.
