Monday’s XC | 10.21

Writers can now have their work read without ever receiving credit. Yet another publication has sprang up on the campus’ crowded writing scene. Orca released its first set of works this weekend, with nine pieces of poetry and prose. Students were encouraged to submit entirely anonymously to the magazine, which might encourage either artistic bravado or a shameless flood of low-quality work.

Friday’s XC | 10.18

Chloe Drimal ’13 wrote a guest column for the News in Dec. 2012 about the phenomenon of Snapchat. Drimal recently made a short cameo in the new video introducing Snapchat Stories. According to her 2012 column, her username is Chaoticklowy, and “I accept silly faces, hungover stares and of course, formal invites” according to her column. Snaps to that.

Thursday’s XC | 10.17

In the Daily Beast’s recent ranking of the Top 20 Schools in America according to “sexiness,” Yale brought home seventh place. Yale men received a 9.06 out of 10 score and girls an 8.87 out of 10 score. The University’s “Trojan Sexual Health rank” came in at a 6. The Daily Beast featured a photograph of students in their sexy commencement gowns in their photo gallery, which included largely photographs of state university students at football games otherwise. The only other Ivy League to make the list was Brown University at 19.

Wednesday’s XC | 10.16

Yale elects their Prom Committee and the crowd may be surprising. Among the eight members serving on the “Junior Promenade Committee” are football player H. W. LeGore, baseball player Spencer Armstrong Pumpelly and Prescott Sheldon Bush, the father of George H. Bush.

Tuesday’s XC | 10.15

Believe in People is continuing his journey around the globe. His work was recently sited in Asia, once again. The Museum of Contemporary Art in Taipai, Taiwan solicited the artist to create a permanent, four-story mural.

Friday’s XC | 10.11

For students fond of late-night strolls in cemeteries and walking among the dead, the New Haven Museum is now offering Lantern Tours of Evergreen Cemetery.

Prank honors Charles B. Johnson

A group of pranksters showed their thanks to Charles Johnson ’54, recent donor of $250 million to the university, by "renaming" many buildings in his honor. Blue paper signs with new names were put up on Yale building plaques, with the note "[as] a sign of our gratitute to Charles Bartlett Johnson '54, this building is hereby renamed." Some of the more creative re-labelings included "William L. 'Charles B. Johnson' Harkness Hall," "Bass-Johnson Library," and lastly, Woodbridge Hall is now temporarily "Johnsonbridge Hall."

In a show of Ivy League camaraderie Dartmouth wished Yale a ‘Happy birthday from Hanover!’ on Facebook.
