Midway through the second period of the men’s hockey game between No. 10 Yale and No. 15 Cornell on Saturday, the student section at Lynah Rink began chanting colorful insults in the general direction of Eli goaltender Alex Lyon ’17, deriding the quality of the junior netminder’s play.

At the same time the puck dropped on the Yale men’s hockey game against St. Lawrence on Jan. 23, an inauspicious streak belonging to defenseman Dan O’Keefe ’17 rose to 27 — 27 games since O’Keefe had last laced up his skates for the No. 10 Bulldogs and 27 games since the junior blueliner had last played meaningful collegiate minutes.

In this week’s NCAA men’s hockey U.S. College Hockey Online poll, Union — which holds a 3–7–4 conference record — received four ranking points. Cornell, which holds just a 0.500 conference winning percentage at 6–6–2, is a ranked team, clocking in at No. 17.
