The men’s (0–0, 0–0 Ivy) and women’s (0–0, 0–0 Ivy) squash teams will host the University of Virginia on Sunday for their first matches of the regular season.
The men’s team comes off a highly successful campaign, ending the 2024-25 season with a 10–3 overall record and a second-place finish at the Collegiate Squash Association National Championship in the spring. The team returns three Bulldogs with All-American honors, Captain Tad Carney ’26, Lachlan Sutton ’27 and Arav Bhagwati ’26, alongside other key contributors including Rishi Srivastava ’28 and Rohan Gondi ’28.
This fall, the Bulldogs are ranked No. 4 in the nation, and will take on No. 6 Virginia, a team that has started the season 3–0. In their last matchup last season, Yale came out on top, 7-2. They look to repeat the strong performance this weekend.
“We have worked extremely hard physically and mentally during the pre-season,” Sutton wrote to the News. “They are tough competitors, and we hope that all the work we have put in reflects this weekend.”
The No. 8 women’s team ended last season with a 6–8 overall record. Heng Wai Wong ’28 earned All-American honors, and will return to the No. 1 position. The team also returns Spring Ma ’28, who played in the No. 2 position, and Captain Whitney Taylor ’26, who had a 9–5 record at the No. 7 position. The women’s team also welcomes Alyssa Ho ’29, Elise Kang ’29, Eedha Mehta ’29, and Swetha Sivakumar ’29.
No. 6 Virginia has started the season 2–0, with both games ending in a 9-0 win for the Cavaliers. In their matchup last season, the Bulldogs fell 1-8, with Taylor picking up Yale’s only win.
“As a sophomore, I’m more prepared,” Wong said. “Last year, UVA was my first college match, so I was definitely more nervous.”
Yale will face the University of Virginia in the Brady Squash Center on Sunday at noon.
