Beginning Jan. 14, Slifka Center will be offering extended dining hours until 8:45 p.m. from Tuesday to Thursday. According to Slifka Center Director Uri Cohen, this is due to Yale Hospitality receiving significant demands to provide later dining hours, particularly for student athletes.

“This is something we’ve been working on for a long time at Yale Hospitality’s request, in response to long-standing demand from the student body. I am so glad that Slifka Center is able to address this important need of the Yale community,” Cohen wrote to the News.

Sahra Wahedi ’27, the deputy director of the Yale College Council dining team, said that based on student feedback from the YCC’s fall survey, they are pushing for an increase in extended dining hall hours. According to the survey, out of 2,418 respondents, around 400 “strongly disagree” that Yale’s dining hours for dinner are accessible with their schedules.

Currently, Ezra Stiles and Morse colleges are the only dining halls that offer extended hours. Wahedi mentioned that she was excited to hear about the new change.

“I was pretty proud to hear about it. The push for extended dining hall hours doesn’t need to be limited to residential dining halls. Having it in Slifka caters to a great portion of the student body,” Wahedi said.

In addition, students will now be able to use guest swipes at Slifka. According to Margarita Nieves, operations manager at Slifka, since the pandemic, it took time until Yale’s new system was able to activate all student swipes at Slifka. The Slifka dining team has worked closely with Yale Hospitality to enable guest swipes at Slifka.

Nieves said that Slifka had previously piloted extended dining hours before the pandemic and they are pleased to continue it now.

“Back then, late dining was hugely successful, and many students on campus were pleased with the additional dining hours flexibility,” Nieves wrote to the News.

The Slifka Center is located at 80 Wall St.
