New Haven has seen two shootings and one armed robbery since Friday evening.
On Friday, New Haven police officers responded to reports of gunshots detected by Public Safety Access Point callers and ShotSpotter on Spring Street between Dewitt Street and Howard Avenue. According to a New Haven Police Department press release, the victim was identified as a 29-year-old male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. After being transported to New Haven Hospital, his injuries were deemed critical and unstable.
Later that night, officers came on the scene at Dixwell Avenue between Bassett and Willis Streets. As officers responded to the crime, they received PSAP calls of armed robberies at local businesses in the area. Officers say that they received information of a masked male entering the shops, holding their owners at gunpoint and robbing cash.
Those robberies took place at 671 Dixwell Ave., 13 Shelton Ave. and 284 Dixwell Ave. — the addresses of Reliable Liquor, Country Market and Dixwell Mini Market.
Early Monday morning, police officers responded to gunshot reports at 1605 Whalley Ave. Sergeant Shayna Kendall, New Haven Police Department spokesman, wrote in a press release that the victim was transported by private vehicle to Yale New Haven Hospital’s St. Raphael Campus. Officers at the hospital identified a 34-year-old Hispanic male who had a single gunshot wound.
The injuries were determined not to be life-threatening and the victim was reported to be stable on Monday.
Investigations into all three incidents are ongoing and those with information are asked to contact the New Haven Police Department Investigative Services Division at 203-946-6304.
