New Haven police officers are investigating an armed robbery of a Yale community member that took place on Webster Street on Sunday morning.

Yale Police Department Chief Ronnell Higgins described the incident in an email to the Yale community Sunday afternoon. Higgins said the incident occurred on Webster between Dixwell Avenue and Ashmun Street. A member of the Yale community was walking when he was approached from behind by two unknown individuals, Higgins wrote. The unknown thieves threatened the victim with a handgun and then fled the scene.

No physical injuries were reported, Higgins wrote. The New Haven Police Department is investigating the robbery and Yale Police has increased patrols in the area.

Higgins’ email represented the third Yale alert of a robbery or attempted robbery since August; it is the first of the three to involve a handgun.
