A Yale graduate student was mugged near the intersection of Church and Wall streets at approximately 4:05 p.m. on Monday afternoon.
The student was walking in the area when a man approached him from behind, simulated having a knife, and robbed him of cash. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.
Chief Higgins alerted the Yale community of the incident in a press release issued at 5:20 p.m. The Yale Police Department referred requests for comment to the Office of Public Affairs and Communications.
University spokesman Tom Conroy told the News in a text message that the criminal made a motion as if he had a knife but that a knife was never displayed.
The New Haven police are investigating the incident.
