A man was stabbed during a fight in New Haven on Tuesday, resulting in his death, according to the New Haven Police Department.

Just after midnight on Feb. 27, NHPD officers and emergency medical personnel responded to an emergency call from 106 Ivy St. to investigate a reported stabbing. The victim, a 51-year-old man, was identified as Stanley Maurice McLellan. He was found motionless in the front yard of the property, according to the NHPD. The victim was stabbed in the head and pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Feb. 27 police press release.

Police said they were informed of a fight between the victim and another unidentified man, who was reportedly visiting the Ivy Street home and remained on the scene until police arrived. Police said the victim was stabbed during the fight between the two men.

“The man involved remained at the scene and has cooperated with investigators. He was interviewed and released uncharged,” the NHPD press release said. “The weapon likely used was recovered.”

The stabbing is still under investigation.
