A New Haven resident was declared dead outside of her apartment last Saturday morning, after police and emergency medical services rushed to the scene.

The 48 year old woman, Ines Carmen Perez, was found dead at 7:45 a.m. outside of her apartment at 285 Quinnipiac Ave., in the city’s Annex neighborhood. The detectives on the scene identified signs of trauma on the body and declared the death a homicide, according to the New Haven Police Department.

The victim’s body was taken from the scene for an autopsy, and NHPD detectives urged anyone with information to call their office or anonymous tip line. Emergency Medical Service personnel, who were called to the apartment complex at when Perez became unresponsive, determined the cause of death to be strangulation, the city’s office of the Chief Medical Examiner announced.

The investigation is ongoing, and the NHPD has not released any information about possible criminal suspects.

New Haven police are also currently investigating the death of an unknown woman, who was found dead outside of her apartment block at 180 Exchange St. last Sunday. Medical examiners will perform an autopsy on the victim.

No additional information about the cause of death has been released.
