Confronting the past. In 1838, Georgetown University profited from the sale of 272 slaves. Yesterday, its president announced a series of measures to make amends. Georgetown will offer an advantage in admissions to the descendants of all slaves whose labor benefited the university and rename two campus buildings to honor African-Americans. These decisions follow student protests on Georgetown’s campus.
