A city bus struck an elderly male pedestrian at the intersection of York and Elm Streets around 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The pedestrian has been taken to a nearby hospital.

The accident occurred when the bus, moving north on York Street, took a left turn onto Broadway. The pedestrian was struck as he crossed the street at the intersection. The intersection of Elm and Broadway was briefly blocked off, but has since been cleared.

Officers are in the process of accessing a video captured by the bus, a policeman at the scene said. Each city bus contains a video system that constantly records its surroundings. The video will allow officers to determine if the pedestrian had right of way. The policeman said the bus driver claimed he made the turn through a green light.
