In memoriam. Elizabeth Garrett, the first female president of Cornell University, died of colon cancer Sunday night. Garrett, who was 52, was appointed to the post only eight months ago. During her short term, she led an effort to establish a college of business. Before heading the Cornell administration, Garrett was the first female provost of the University of Southern California from 2010 to 2014.
