A teenager died early Tuesday morning after being shot in the chest.

Officers were dispatched to a reported shooting at 14 Clinton Avenue at 1:07 a.m., according to New Haven Police Department spokesman David Hartman. Officers found the 19-year old victim, Jonathan Aranda, in cardiac arrest after having been shot in the chest in the backyard of the house, Hartman said in a news release. Aranda was pronounced dead half an hour later at Yale-New Haven hospital.

Aranda is the 15th homicide victim in New Haven this year. After the deaths of 19-year-old Maurice Richardson and 16-year old Jericho Scott, Aranda is the third teenage homicide this year.

Hartman said in an early morning press release that detectives were investigating at the scene, interviewing potential witnesses and collecting evidence. Though no suspects have been described, there was a car described as a light green or grey Honda Civic or Accord seen speeding toward Grand Avenue after the shooting.

The location of the homicide is about two miles from Yale’s campus.
