A shooting roughly a mile southwest of Old Campus left the city’s fourth homicide victim dead on Monday night.

In a 9:42 p.m. press release, New Haven Police Department spokesman David Hartman reported that 22-year old New Haven resident Kyle Edwards had been shot in the first floor of a local residential complex. Hartman said that NHPD officers were dispatched to the scene at 8:32 p.m. in response to reports of gunfire.

“Officers arrived and located the victim,” Hartman said in the release. “He is the second floor resident of that home. Mr. Edwards suffered a gunshot wound to his head. He was rushed to Yale-New Haven hospital, where a short time later he was pronounced deceased.”

Hartman added that police do not yet have descriptions of either a suspect or vehicle.

Three of the year’s homicides have been the result of gun violence. On Jan. 19, 19-month old Athiyan Sivakumar was found dead by police after sustaining major head trauma. The NHPD has identified Sivakumar’s babysitter, 27-year old Kinjal Patel as their prime suspect in that investigation.

Police were dispatched to 31 Kossuth St. when they found Edwards.
