Next Monday, April Ruiz ’05 will assume the deanship of Calhoun College following the death of Dean Leslie Woodard in October.

Ruiz was announced as the new Dean in the Calhoun dining hall in front of an audience of Calhoun students on Monday night. Yale College Dean Mary Miller introduced her to the college, while Calhoun College Master Holloway offered his support and advice for both Ruiz and the crowd of students. Ruiz, who was in Morse College during her undergraduate years, spoke of her excitement to take on this new role and to get to know the students and the college better.

Ruiz majored in cognitive science as an undergraduate and earned a Ph.D. at the University of St. Andrews studying animal intelligence. She currently works as an Assistant Director for Yale College Fellowships at the Center for International and Professional Experience.

Ruiz, her fiancé Neil Catapano and her dog Benjamin are expected to move into the Dean’s residence next semester.
