In the wake of Tuesday’s mayoral election, Yale President Peter Salovey sent an email to the University early Wednesday congratulating mayor-elect Toni Harp ARC ’78.
“I am pleased to offer my congratulations to our mayor-elect,” Salovey wrote, “and pledge on behalf of the Yale community to continue our strong relationship with the city under her leadership.”
Salovey also praised Harp’s opponent, petitioning Independent candidate Justin Elicker FES ’10 SOM ’10, and noted the substantive character of the 10-month race. In a closing note, Salovey paid homage to the legacy of outgoing Mayor John DeStefano Jr., who has led the city since 1994.
“I am grateful to John DeStefano for his vision and direction during an unprecedented term in City Hall,” Salovey wrote.
Harp clinched Tuesday’s election with roughly 54 percent of the vote.
