The last day of October looms ever closer and the YSO Concert may be the perfect way to ring in the holiday… unless you were unable to grab a ticket. Never fear, there are still plenty of ways to take that Halloween break besides listening to classical music eating all of the chocolate you saved up for YSO alone in your room. XC presents your back-up plan to the YSO Concert…

Silliman Haunted House. Tuesday, Oct. 29. 8-10 p.m. Silliman College Basement, 505 College St.
Warm-up for Halloweekend by getting started two days early. The Silliman Haunted House tradition is “back and with a vengeance” this year according to Silliman member Nicole de Santis ’15. This year’s affair takes place at the “Silliman Private Care Center” for troubled celebrities including Britney Spears, Kanye West and Miley Cyrus. Sounds like the makings of a VH1 music video…

Kooks and Spooks. Thursday, Oct. 31. 9:30 p.m. Toad’s, 300 York St.
Celebrate the scariest holiday of the year at the scariest joint in New Haven. Join radio station 99.1 WPLR as they throw their annual Kooks and Spooks Convention costume party at Toad’s. Costumes are encouraged and “prizes” (penny drinks? playlist requests? Toad’s gold cards?) will be given out to the best get-ups. Five dollars for over-21 admission and $10 for under-21. Can Toad’s get more frightening than it usually is? Prepare yourself accordingly…

Skulls & Bones. Thursday, Oct. 31. 5:30-7:45 p.m. The New Haven Museum, 114 Whitney Ave.
Remains of a human skeleton were unearthed from the root of the Lincoln Oak on the New Haven Green during a storm in a spooky incident around Halloween last year. Who was buried? Were they buried alive? Researchers have dug up the sordid details and the truth will be unearthed at panel discussion.

An Ordinary Halloween. Thursday, Oct. 31. 10 p.m. Ordinary, 990 Chapel St.
(21+) The only thing that might rival candy on Halloween is cheese (and craft beers). Ordinary has planned an extraordinary celebration at 990 Chapel St. complete with a DJ and funky lighting. See XC’s recent menu gallery for Ordinary to get a sense of what lies ahead.

Nosferatu and Freaks Showing. Thursday, Oct. 31. 7 p.m. Auditorium, Whitney Humanities Center, 53 Wall St.
No party will scare you as much sitting down in a darkened theater for an old, black and white horror film. Give yourself nightmares by watching two classic horror films and get to know Nosferatu, the original Dracula.

Oaxacan-Style Thursday, Oct. 31. 9 p.m.-midnight. Oaxaca Kitchen, 228 College St.
(21+) Liquor/treats? Costumed attendees can enjoy $3 beers and $2 chicken tacos — the perfect liquor & treat pairing.

Dance like a GPSCY. Thursday, Oct. 31. 12 a.m.-5 a.m. Gryphon’s Pub, 204 York St.
(Grad Students) One of the decidedly few perks of being a graduate student — free Miller High Life will be served until it runs out and two dollar house drinks will be served until 11pm. At midnight, DJ Brooks will take the stage in the ballroom for a dance party.

President’s Halloween Party and Costume Contest. Thursday, Oct. 31. 9:30-11 p.m. Commons, 168 Grove St.
Like every year, the President is hosting a Halloween Party. Unlike every year, we have a new President.

Sig Ep SPOOK’D Friday, Nov. 1. 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Alchemy Nightclub, 239 Crown St.
Halloweekend continues fraternity-style at Alchemy.

Inferno. Saturday, Nov. 2 10pm-1am. Pierson Dining Hall, 261 Park St.
Like Dante’s inferno, this should be the ninth circle of the hell known as your Halloween weekend. Biggest selling point? Free admission.

From there, go forth into your weekend and bring back your own scary stories (and as always, tweet those stories at @ydnweekend).
