Last night, another Bulldog was claimed by the National Hockey League.

John Hayden ’17, a new addition to the men’s hockey roster in the fall, was selected in the third round and 74th overall in the 51st NHL entry draft by the Chicago Blackhawks — the 2013 Stanley Cup Champions. Hayden played the past two seasons for the U.S. National Team Development program and accumulated a total of 33 points in 55 games played last season. The 6-foot-3, 210 pound forward and Greenwich, Conn. native also accumulated 80 penalty minutes last season.

While the two organizations in Hayden’s future have recently won league titles — Yale taking the NCAA national championship and the Blackhawks the Stanley Cup — Hayden also has a number of awards under his belt. In the IIHF U-18 World Championships, Hayden brought home a silver medal.
