President Barack Obama nominated Yale law visiting professor and Quinnipiac law professor Jeffrey Meyer ’85 LAW ’89 for a federal judgeship last Friday, the Associated Press reported.
If confirmed by the Senate, Meyer will fill a vacant position on Connecticut’s federal bench. Connecticut Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy said in a statement that they will do everything they can to ensure Senate confirmation for Meyer.
“Jeff Meyer has the talent, temperament, and tenacity to be a great judge, as well as a rich and diverse legal and academic background that will serve him well on the bench,” both senators said in the statement.
Before joining Quinnipiac University as a law professor in 2006, Meyer was senior counsel to an investigation panel that examined the United Nations oil-for-food program in Iraq. From 1995 to 2004, he served as a federal criminal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Connecticut, and he has clerked for Chief Judge James L. Oakes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit and Associate Justice Harry A. Blackmun of the U.S. Supreme Court.
