Two Yale College graduates and four graduate students have been named 2013 Paul and Daisy Soros Fellows, entitling them to up to $90,000 in tuition and stipend assistance for two years of graduate study.

The fellowship aims to support graduate study for first-generation immigrants to the United States. Fellows are selected on the basis of the creativity, originality and initiative, as well as their potential to “enrich some aspect of American life or society.”

Parwiz Abrahimi GRD ’16 is pursuing his MD and PhD in immunobiology at Yale. His doctoral research is in the Jordan Pober lab on the role of vascular cells in the immunological rejection of transplanted organs.

Amar Bakshi LAW ’15 is completing a JD at Yale Law School. He study focuses on media-related law and business.

Yale alumnus Eva Bitran ’09 is currently pursuing her JD at Harvard Law School and PhD in history.

Sejal Hathi ’13 will graduate in the spring and attend Stanford Medical School. She hopes to work at the nexus of medical entrepreneurship, international women’s health, and social innovation.

Dennis Tseng SOM ’14 is an MBA candidate at the the Yale School of Management. He hopes to form a benefit corporation devoted to the arts.

Etienne Mashuli will pursue his master’s degree in African Studies at Yale. His study focuses on reconciliation issues in Rwanda.
