  • This fall, the Yale College Council announced the creation of a new science and engineering subcommittee to better represent the needs of students in those disciplines. Though the group has only convened twice since the start of the 2011-’12 academic year, YCC President Brandon Levin ’13 said the subcommittee is the one first concrete efforts by the YCC in recent years to specifically enact policies geared toward Yale’s science and engineering community.
  • The St. Kitt’s vervet monkeys’ tendency to eat everything from ripe fruit to vegetable crops has been a problem for the residents ever since they arrived in St. Kitts three centuries ago. Lacking resources, the federation’s government has made only irregular attempts to control the highly observant and intelligent animals. To keep the monkey population under control, researchers at the Yale-run St. Kitts Biomedical Research Foundation have used them in their research, but this has generated criticism from animal rights activists.
