On Feb. 3, 2011, Yalies gathered together in Commons dining hall to celebrate the Lunar New Year and to welcome the Year of the Rabbit. Traditional Chinese dance accompanied a feast of Peking roast duck, char siu pork and Chinese kimchi. As tradition dictates, the night was a time to bid farewell to the past, make way for an auspicious future and wish peace and prosperity for all; greetings of “kung hei fat choi,” or “congratulations and be prosperous,” filled the air. Contributing photographer joy chen captured the cultural richness, texture and vibrant colors that lit up Commons during a cold New Haven winter weekend.
