Mayor John DeStefano Jr. asked for residents’ patience as the Elm City struggles to dig out of the snow.

In a statement released by City Hall spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga Saturday, DeStefano stressed the importance of clearing sidewalks and not parking on streets being cleared of snow. The mayor said school parking lots are open to residents, but cars must be out of the lot by 10 p.m. Sunday night. Residents who do not clear their sidewalks are subject to a $100 fine.

“Our crews have been out day and night since early Wednesday morning,” DeStefano said. “Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we work together to make all of our streets accessible.”

The Emergency Operations Center, in the basement of 200 Orange Street, remains open 24 hours per day, the statement said.
