Stepping outside could be dangerous this morning.

Deputy Secretary for the University Martha Highsmith warned the Yale community in an e-mail this morning to be careful of ice falling off of rooftops:

We have called in extra staff to remove snow and ice accumulations and to rope off areas that may present hazards. In addition, as you will know, walkways are also very slippery, and crews are addressing those areas, as well.

Highsmith said to “exercise extreme caution” when getting around today.

Meanwhile, Pierson Dean Amerigo Fabbri pinpointed some of the problem areas in his college’s courtyard for students: “ice is really sticking out dangerously from window bays of the top floors of entryways B, C, D, and E,” he wrote in an e-mail.
