  • For those who have yet to visit “The Education of the Virgin” — go soon. The painting was officially attributed to Spanish master painter Diego Velazquez last July after sitting for 80 years in University storage is currently on view on the third floor of the University Art Gallery, but it will not be there for long. On Feb. 21, the work — which is believed to be among the earliest known works by the painter — will go into conservation, a restoration effort that could take up to four years, said Laurence Kanter, the gallery’s curator of European art.
  • For many, a legal degree may not be worth its cost, according to a New York Times article published last weekend. But for graduates of Yale Law School, the number one school in the nation, it remains profitable. The article painted a bleak picture of employment prospects for law school graduates: 15,000 legal jobs at large firms have vanished since 2008, and students can graduate with debts up to $200,000. But virtually all YLS graduates continue to find employment, YLS administrators and national experts said.
  • Classesv2 may not be as much fun as YouTube or Hulu, but it will soon play videos. Information Technology Services is piloting a new program, Kaltura, to interface with classesv2 and allow professors to upload video and audio files to their class websites. If the experiment goes as planned, the program will join the 26 other available tools on classesv2 — including the ability to upload PDF files or send announcements to the class — next fall, said David Hirsch, an associate director of ITS. This semester, several professors are testing the highly customizable program before it becomes available for general use.
