Ward 1 Alderman Michael Jones ’11 said Tuesday evening he was disappointed by Board of Aldermen’s new committee appointments.

Jones, currently the vice-chair of the legislation committee, was expecting a promotion.

Board of Aldermen President Carl Goldfield appointed Jorge Perez, the longtime Ward 5 alderman to chair the committee, which is the first stop of many bills the Board votes on.

“While I am disappointed in Alderman Goldfield’s decision, I do have full confidence in the ability of Alderman Perez to lead the legislation committee, and I am happy to assist him in my capacity as vice-chair,” Jones said.

Former Ward 9 Alderman Roland Lemar supported Jones for the chairmanship, the News reported in September. Lemar who chaired the committee until he resigned in September to run unopposed for State Representative for the 96th District.

Matt Smith ’98, the new Ward 9 Alderman replacing Lemar, was appointed to positions on the legislation and education committees.

Jones was reappointed to the human services committee and as vice-chair of legislation.
