While the Yale and Quinnipiac men’s hockey teams clashed Saturday night at Ingalls Rink, their communities joined together earlier that day to raise more than $4,000 for Mandi Schwartz ’11, the women’s hockey forward diagnosed with leukemia in December 2008.

Schwartz’s supporters walked 7.5 miles along the Farmington Canal, which runs between the Quinnipiac and Yale hockey rinks, for “Mandi’s March.” More than 200 walkers, bikers and runners left the trailhead by Quinnipiac’s TD Bank Sports Center, in Hamden, between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. and finished at the Yale Whale on Sachem Street.

At the men’s hockey game that night, Donations at the March — an effort led by Yale Athletics, Quinnipiac Athletics and the Yale Club of New Haven — presented members of the women’s hockey team with a check for $4,000 raised for Schwartz and her family.
