New Haven Chief of Police Frank Limon met with community members at Barnard School on Thursday night to discuss community-police relations.

The meeting, which according to the New Haven Register lasted nearly two hours, is part of a four-part tour that will also include St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Wilson Library, and Fair Haven Library throughout the next month. The purpose of these meetings is to keep lines of communication open between the community and the NHPD said City Hall spokeswoman Jessica Mayorga in an e-mail.

The forums also serve to “allow citizens to meet the new chief of police and to express issues of mutual concern,” she wrote. Limon assumed office April 5.

At the meeting, according to the Register, Limon said, “I’ve seen in the last seven months, kind of a theme of us versus them. We cannot exist that way. We have to be a community.”
