Mystère et boules de gomme! Mireille and Robert are coming to Yale.

At the end of the October, Yale will host the 25th anniversary celebration of French in Action, the Yale-created method of teaching beginner French. That means the actors who played Mireille and Robert, the two lovebird protagonists of the completely dated, oft-ridiculous educational videos meant to immerse students in the language, will be on campus. Pierre Capretz, the Yale professor who founded of the method, will also be there.

French in Action has cult status, but it’s tenure in Yale’s French Department has not been without controversy. In 1990 the department vowed to change the course after students complained that it was sexist.

Anyway, we’re excited to see how Mireille and Robert have aged.
