New Haven Police Department Assistant Police Chief Stephanie Redding will likely be appointed acting chief come February when current Chief James Lewis departs, Mayor John DeStefano Jr. announced after his State of the City address Monday evening.

Redding is the only one of the top five police officials who will remain past February. The announcement follows Friday’s suspension of Assistant Police Chief Peter Reichard because of complaints about his conduct.

Redding previously served as acting chief from April to July 2008 during a transition between former Chief Francisco Ortiz and Lewis. She is currently the assistant chief of the administration.
