Yale.edu is the 10th most visited college Web site in the world, according to rankings released last week by 4icu.org, an online directory of accredited, four-year institutions.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology topped this year’s list, which measures the popularity of Web sites according to page views, traffic and received links based on data collected from Google, Yahoo and Amazon’s search engines.

The creators of 4icu.org state that their mission is “to provide an approximate popularity ranking of worldwide Universities and Colleges based upon the popularity of their websites.”

Other American colleges named among the top five on the list include Stanford, Harvard, and the University of California, Berkeley. The Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico was the only non-American institution in the top five.
