University Health Services will return to a “routine standard of care” — i.e., no required self-isolation and no meal delivery services — for students experiencing flu-like symptoms, according to an e-mail message from UHS that Silliman College Master Judith Krauss forwarded to students in her college Monday morning.

“We have seen very little flu activity since January 4, 2010 and therefore we have decided to return to our routine standard of care for students with the flu,” read the e-mail message, which Krauss attributed to UHS. “Health Services is no longer requiring students diagnosed with the flu to be in self isolation; thus, we will also no longer provide special meal service for students who are ill.”

But, the e-mail maintained, students with persistent flu-like symptoms are still encouraged to seek help from UHS, and the University will continue to offer seasonal and H1N1 vaccines.

“We will continue to monitor the flu in our patient population and if there are any upward trends we will return to a more aggressive approach,” read the e-mail.
