Two New Haven police officers and one suspect were injured Saturday in a long chase that ended with the police shooting the suspect. Around 7:15 p.m., when police tried to stop a black sedan in the Hill neighborhood for a motor vehicle violation, the car fled. Police spotted it on Ella T. Grasso Boulevard when the sedan rammed into the police car and again fled, hitting another car before stopping in the parking lot of a gas station on Whalley Avenue. After two other police officers spotted the car and began to approach on foot, the sedan sped toward one of the officers and hit him. As the officer was thrown onto the car, he fired a shot through the front windshield and hit the driver in the chest. The car then crashed into another vehicle. The officer and the driver were treated at a local hospital for non-life threatening wounds.
