Renovations at Mory’s are expected to start up sometime this month, according to Mory’s Board of Governors President Christopher Getman ’64.

In an e-mail to “Mory’s supporters and friends” sent last week, Getman wrote that “the site preparation is complete, and we hope to be in the ground with roughly 100 cubic yards of cement in early January.”

To: Mory’s supporters and friends,

From: Chris Getman, President, The Mory’s Association

We intend shortly to pour the foundations for our new Temple Bar (it will open onto a terrace behind the clubhouse with new outdoor seating.) The site preparation is complete, and we hope to be in the ground with roughly 100 cubic yards of cement in early January. It’s very exciting!!!!!!

We are near the end of our long, but gratifying, journey to being in a position to start the project in full, and I’m writing once again to make you aware of what opportunities are left to support the effort. As you can see, a scarcity is developing, but if you go to our website, www.morysclub.org/preservationyou’ll see what’s been spoken for and what’s left. As you’ll see, there are a small number of banquettes/booths, several tables and over 100 chairs. Given the end of the year rush, for the absolute most current opportunities, please call Robin directly at 203-562-3157. If we are able to “plaque” all of the remaining items, we will exceed our fundraising goals and work will progress in earnest. I hope you find something to your liking left in the inventory.

I also remind you that Mory’s Preservation Inc. is a 501c(3) organization and gifts to it are immediately tax deductible.

As to reunion credit, we are now right at the $1.8 million cap set by Yale, and cannot with certainty guarantee credit. We will ask the university to include gifts above the cap, but cannot be certain of their decision.

I can’t thank you enough for your generosity here to date. Mory’s is indeed a special and unique place, and it is our commitment to offer a “place of choice” for all members of the Yale community and beyond with good food, great service and a unique, warm and welcoming atmosphere when we reopen.

Wishing you the best for a prosperous and healthy 2010 and thanking you for your extraordinary support to date, I send:

Warm regards,

Chris
