Chris Dudley ’87 — a philanthropist, financial advisor and former NBA player — will run for governor of Oregon, he announced Wednesday to a group of supporters in Portland.

Dudley, who is running as a Republican, has never before campaigned for public office. His Web site says he supports lowering state income taxes and increasing the financial autonomy of Oregon public universities.

At Yale, Dudley was in Timothy Dwight College, played varsity basketball for all four years and double-majored in political science and economics.
