The Yale women’s basketball team started off its season on the right note: In their first game of the season, the Bulldogs came back from a 14-point halftime deficit to defeat the College of Holy Cross 66 to 60.
The Elis played a sluggish first half en route to a disappointing 39-25 halftime score. Holy Cross flaunted the experience of its players in building such a big lead.
“They looked like a team of seniors,” head coach Chris Gobrecht said.
However, key freshmen guards Megan Vazquez ’13 and Aarica West ’13 sparked an offensive surge that put the Bulldogs back in the game. Later, forward and captain Ashley Carter ’10 sealed the win with key plays on both ends of the floor.
West suffered a knee injury during the game. The extent of the injury will be determined on Monday.
Yale next plays Army on Tuesday at the John J. Lee Amphitheater at 7 p.m.
