Yale Dining lost two members of its staff this week: Donna Colon and George “Butch” Marro.
Colon, who worked at the card-swipe counter at the Timothy Dwight College dining hall, died suddenly Thursday night of an aneurysm. Marro, who worked in the Saybrook College dining hall, died Friday of unknown causes.
In an e-mail message announcing Colon’s death to TD students, TD Master Robert Thompson called Colon a “bright light in a large room” whom students and faculty “will not forget.”
A fund has been established to allow Colon’s sister to take leave from work, the e-mail said, and donations can be directed to Jeff Kwolek, the TD dining hall manager.
Saybrook Master Paul Hudak said in an e-mail to Saybrook students Saturday that Marro was “an excellent employee, a kind gentlemen and a good friend.”
“I only knew Butch for a few months, but his impact on me was significant,” Hudak wrote. “His warm greetings were always welcome, and he worked tirelessly to make our dining hall experiences special.”
