You may have heard about Lil’ Wayne. He has a new mixtape out, “No Ceilings,” an album that is basically Weezy’s walking tour through post-Weezy candy rap. No beat is safe: The Pussy Monster remixes tracks ranging from Jay-Z’s “D.O.A.” to shit you didn’t know existed. Very very high lights include: “Watch My Shoes,” in which the rapper climbs into a 3 Deep beat and then eats it from the inside out; “Ice Cream Paint Job,” in which the rapper casually drops jewels like, “Bitch I go hard / like that boy from 300” and “I’m all over this ice cream beat like sprinkles”; and “Swag Surfin’,” in which the rapper shows us, finally, where the wild things are.
The real draw of this free tape has to be Wayne’s remix of the Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.” Did you know that one of the members of the Black Eyed Peas is named Apple? It’s true. On his “I Gotta Feeling,” Wayne throws Apple into the back of a van and forces him to sing the song’s dead-on-arrival hook over and over again. While this is happening, Wayne speeds around Hollygrove and swallows enough pills to kill a Gucci Mane, stopping only to cackle his way through two verses. He never gets to the third: the van flies off a cliff before it can start.
At least that’s how one listener hears it. But seriously, “No Ceilings!” It’s free!
