Is a library still a library if its books can’t be read? When Harvard’s Dunster House — the sister college of Berkeley at Yale — reopened its library Sunday, bewildered students discovered that all the library’s books were locked away behind newly installed metal bars.

Rich universities keep getting poorer: Stanford University’s endowment posted a negative return of 25.9 percent over the past fiscal year, while Princeton’s fund fell 22.7 percent, the two schools announced yesterday.
