In one of the closest intramurals seasons in recent memory, Timothy Dwight College officially secured the Tyng Cup after golf results from the April 27 tournament came in Tuesday. The Lions captured a total of 1073.5 points over the course of the year, a mere 18.5 points ahead of second-place Jonathan Edwards College.
Despite reaching the playoffs in four sports in the spring season, the Lions have not won a championship since bowling in the winter season and golf and table tennis — both of which where they competed as defending champions — in the fall.
With the win, TD topples a three-year streak of Tyng championships by Silliman College, which placed third this year.
TD last won the Tyng in the 1996-’97 season and has now broken away from Pierson College to hold the single-most Tyng championships, 12, since the Cup was first awarded in 1933.
