In Monday’s Board of Aldermen meeting, the board unanimously passed a resolution to install a sound barrier along the State Street entrance to highway I-91 south. It also passed a resolution approving transfer of funds to provide $160,000 in supplemental operating support to the Tweed New Haven Airport Authority. Ward 23 Alderman Yusuf Shah, chair of the Finance Committee, said at the meeting that New Haven needs more police officers in the street, citing the fact that the city pays more in overtime wages to current officers than would be needed to hire additional officers. Shah added that the money for these hires has already been allocated with the passage of the Community Oriented Policing Services grant from the U.S. Department of Justice.
